About Glenbard All Breed Obedience Club

For over 60 years, Glenbard All Breed Obedience Club, Inc. (GABOC) has been a trusted resource for dog owners in DuPage County and beyond. We are a not-for-profit, all-volunteer organization committed to helping people build stronger bonds with their dogs through effective, positive training.
At GABOC, we believe that a well-trained dog is a happier, more confident companion. Our classes focus on basic to advanced obedience skills, using the inductive method and positive reinforcement to create a fun, rewarding experience for both dogs and their handlers.
We hold training sessions on Monday and Tuesday evenings at the DuPage County Fairgrounds, where our experienced instructors and assistants—many of whom actively train and compete with their own dogs—share their knowledge and passion with each class.
Whether you’re hoping to earn your AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy or Canine Good Citizen (CGC) title, or you’re simply looking for a well-mannered family dog, we have a class for you. GABOC welcomes all breeds and mixed breeds—your dog does not need to be purebred to join our training activities.
Many of our members go on to participate in a variety of canine sports and service areas, including agility, obedience trials, herding, water rescue, therapy dog work, and tracking.
At GABOC, we’re more than just a dog training club—we’re a community of dog lovers dedicated to helping you and your dog succeed together.
Our Mission
The mission of the Glenbard All Breed Obedience Club (GABOC) is to educate owners in training their dogs in basic and advanced obedience skills, using a positive reinforcement, inductive method, according to the club’s website. GABOC is a not-for-profit, all-volunteer organization dedicated to helping owners develop well-mannered companion dogs or prepare them for competitive obedience and other AKC events.
Education
GABOC focuses on teaching owners how to train their dogs, whether for basic household manners or more advanced skills needed for competition.

The club uses a positive reinforcement method, which emphasizes rewarding desired behaviors to encourage learning.

Inclusivity
Our Programs
Obedience Training
Build a strong foundation from Puppy to Advanced levels. We offer both drop-in and structured 8–10 week classes. Our curriculum follows AKC guidelines, including STAR Puppy and CGC prep. Whether you’re training for competition or everyday manners, we’re here to help your dog become their best self.
Conformation Training
Get show-ring ready in a relaxed, supportive setting. Practice stacking, gaiting, and group movement while receiving helpful feedback from experienced instructors. Our classes help you and your dog gain confidence and polish for the conformation ring.
Correction Matches
Correction matches offer valuable, low-pressure ring practice. GABOC hosts five matches each year, plus a Super Match during our annual Obedience Trial week. It’s a great chance to fine-tune your skills and boost your dog’s confidence before your next competition.
Obedience & Rally Trials
Put your training to the test! GABOC hosts an AKC All-Breed Obedience and Rally Trial each November. Classes in both disciplines prepare you and your dog to compete with confidence and success. Come see what all the excitement is about!
Tracking
Discover the power of your dog’s nose! Our tracking classes teach scent detection skills while helping you learn to read your dog’s body language. It’s a great introduction to tracking tests—and a fun way to deepen your partnership. (Watch for classes returning soon!)
Beyond the Basics
GABOC members explore all kinds of fun and meaningful activities with their dogs—including herding, water rescue, carting, therapy dog work, and trick dog titles. Whether you’re looking to try something new or connect with others, there’s always more to discover!
Agility Trials
Agility is fast-paced and fun for dogs and handlers alike! GABOC hosts three AKC agility trials each year at offsite venues. While we don’t offer agility classes due to space limitations, we’re proud to support the sport through exciting trial events.
Rally
Rally combines obedience with teamwork and fun. Our instructors design courses from Novice to Masters and offer guidance at every level. Whether you’re just starting or trialing regularly, you’ll find support and challenge here.
Ring Rental
Need extra practice time? Reserve a 15-minute ring session on Tuesday nights between 6:30–8:30 pm. It’s a great way to work on skills at your own pace in a quiet, focused environment. Perfect for obedience, rally, or just fine-tuning your teamwork before a trial.
